In a celebration of India’s rich artistic traditions, the upcoming G20 Summit in New Delhi will offer delegates and global media a unique opportunity to explore the nation’s diverse art and craft. The Indian government is organizing a captivating ‘Craft Bazaar,’ featuring a curated selection of exquisite items representing all 30 Indian States and Union Territories. This initiative aims to promote India’s vibrant heritage and provide a platform for local artisans to connect with a global audience.

Muktesh K Pardeshi, Special Secretary (G20 Operations) at the G20 Secretariat, Ministry of External Affairs, stated, “More than 30 States and UTs from all over the country are participating to showcase India’s craft heritage to the global media and G20 delegates, who will also have the opportunity to buy these locally-sourced products.”

The Craft Bazaar, functioning as an exhibition-cum-sale platform, will be hosted at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan from September 8-10, 2023. It will prominently feature One District One Product (ODOP) creations, items with Geographical Indication (GI) tags, and products crafted by women and tribal artisans, adding depth and diversity to the showcase.

Pardeshi emphasized, “The Bazaar would not only promote Indian products on a global stage but also open up new economic and market opportunities for local artisans.”

To provide G20 delegates with an immersive experience, the Craft Bazaar will have live artisans from across India, offering live demonstrations of various art and craft forms. Visitors can witness the creation of intricate paper mache from Kashmir (North), vibrant lac bangles from Rajasthan (West), captivating Madhubani paintings from Bihar (East), exquisite Thanjavur paintings from Tamil Nadu (South), and enchanting Lippan paintings/mud mirror work from Gujarat (West).

In addition to the participation of all 30 States and UTs, six central agencies, including Tribes India (TRIFED), Central Cottage Industries emporium, Khadi Gramodyog, SARAS Ajeevika, National Bamboo Mission, and National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC), will also showcase their exceptional craft products.

ODOP and GI products are carefully selected to be presented as gifts to the esteemed foreign delegates attending the G20 Summit.
